Minutes of August 21, 2006 Council Meeting
Meeting was called to order with the pledge to the flag.
The West Alexandria Village Council met in regular session in the Town Hall on Tuesday, September 5, 2006. Those council persons present were Ian Campbell, Carol Lunsford, David Mays, Ron Nisius, and Russ Schenck. Greg Thompson was absent. Motion: Carol Lunsford moved to approve the minutes of the meeting on August 21, 2006, seconded by David Mays. VV: 5yea. Bills #28303 - 28329 and 10626 - 10643 totaling $98,806.98 were presented to Council for payment. Motion: David Mays moved to pay the village bills, seconded by Russ Schenck. Roll call vote: 5 yea.
GUESTS: Bill Bliss, Mark Ulrich, Kevin Thorpe, Elizabeth Saunders, Becky Davidson, Tim Timson, Chief Webb, and Karen Mays.
CORRESPONDENCE: Letter from Preble County Commissioners proclaiming September 10th as a day of remembrance. Letter from Charlie Biggs stating that elected officials need to take the NIMS course - IS-700 by the end of September to be eligible for FEMA grants. Karen Mays is updating the village directory. She is asking for e-mail addresses and phone numbers.
RESOLUTIONS/ORDINANCES: None.
VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR: Mayor Suggs reported that work on the WTP is progressing. The service department is painting curbs. Dave Tobias stated that it will be several weeks before the corporation limit signs are completed. Mayor Suggs hopes to have the signs before the Oktoberfest.
POLICE: Chief Webb introduced Rebecca Davidson who is the new auxiliary reserve officer. He gave the monthly report. The department participated in the seat belt and dui program for the holiday weekend and did the Officer Phil program at the elementary school. The computers have been upgraded. Asst. Chief Timson is working with technical support.
FIRE: Chief Bliss reported that the department has had 109 calls so far. They participated at the community picnic. This past weekend the firemen filled a boot for MDA. They collected $1100. They will be participating in the ceremony at Preble Memory Gardens. The old fire bell is being moved to the front of the station. Chief Bliss gave a report on FEMA grants for the past 3 years.
BUDGET: David and Karen Mays will be going to a SWOTAA meeting tomorrow. He reminded department heads about line items for the budget.
OLD BUSINESS: Mayor Suggs went to the Lanier Township meeting last Tuesday about the pool and a joint park district. At this time, the township has no interest in a joint park district. He gave the township a copy of the petition in reference to the Gasper Township lawsuit. Lanier Township signed the petition and forwarded it to the county commissioners. Mayor Suggs will go to the Twin Township meeting next month. Some of the mayors took resolutions to the townships. The other resolutions were mailed.
