INCOME TAX ADMINISTRATOR:

Karen Mays gave her report. She reported that most entities are dropping their income tax credit or raising their income tax.

STREETS:
Carol Lunsford asked if something could be done about the cracks in the street and the grass growing in the cracks.  Chris Day replied that the village needs to look at sealing the cracks next year. Some of the streets were sprayed, but the department did not have time to do all the streets.  Russ Schenck asked if Mr. Day has been looking at street sweepers.  Mr. Day has been looking at brochures, but would like to visit some entities with the sweepers to see how they perform.

OLD BUSINESS:
Mayor asked Solicitor Faber to give an update on the Gasper lawsuit.  Mr. Faber stated that 7 of the 10 villages have joined the defense level. There will be a mayors' association meeting Thursday.  Mayor Suggs prepared a letter to the townships concerning a joint recreation board. He copied the sections of the ORC that pertained to forming a joint recreation board and sent copies of the nine year operating losses on the pool.  He asked the townships if they were interested in a work session.  Lanier Township does not meet until August 29th.

NEW BUSINESS:
Ron Nisius asked Mayor Suggs about abandonment of an alley. Mayor Suggs replied that the property owners have to initiate a petition to close an alley.  Beggars' Night will be October 31st from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M.

POLICE:
Chief Webb reported that the department entered the DUI campaign from August 16th through September 4th. The department is ready for the start of school. They will be doing a seat belt program with the third grade.  Chief Webb recommended that Tim Hedges and Mark Swain be appointed as part time officers, starting at $8.48 an hour, Rebecca Davidson be appointed as an auxiliary reserve officer ($1.00 a year). Mayor Suggs appointed Tim Hedges and Mark Swain part time police officers and Rebecca Davidson as an auxiliary reserve officer.
Motion:
David Mays moved to approve the appointments and pay Tim Hedges and Mark Swain $8.48 an hour, seconded by Russ Schenck.
