Minutes of June 19, 2006 Meeting
Meeting was called to order with the pledge to the flag.
The West Alexandria Village Council met in regular Monday, June 19, 2006. Those Council persons present were Carol Lunsford, David Mays, and Greg Thompson. Ron Nisius were excused.
Motion: Carol Lunsford moved to approve the minutes of the meeting on June 5 2006, seconded by Greg Thompson. VV: 4 yea. Bills #28133-28163 and 10543-10560 totaling $71,875.51 were presented to council for payment. Motion: Carol Lunsford moved to pay the village bills, seconded by Greg Thompson. Roll call vote: 4 yea.
GUESTS: Edna Shiverdecker, Linda Fitzwater, Debbie Elmore, Anita Kouts, Karen Mays, Nancy Erslan, Barb Shmidt, Chris Day, and Asst. Chief Smith. Linda Fitzwater stated she went to the pool with her grandchildren. She asked if this area has been used as a dumping place. Chris Day replied that items are being put there while Dayton Street and the Water Treatment projects are being completed. Edna Shiverdecker asked Mrs. Fitzwater if she was checking out the condition of the pool. Mrs. Fitzwater stated she could not see the "workings of the pool".
CORRESPONDENCE: Letter from Preble County Commissioners stating which entities were chosen for the CDBG: Lewisburg, New Paris, Gratis, and West Elkton. The NOW PariS project was chosen to submit for the distress grant. Mayor has two sets of minutes from the Preble County CIC.
RESOLUTIONS/ORDINANCES: First reading of Resolution Amending 2006 Estimated Revenue and Appropriations by title.
ASSISTANT VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR: Chris Day reported the Barrett Paving contractor is in the village digging up bad areas. He will probably be in the village all week. Next week they will start paving US 35. Mr. Day has one more fire hydrant to replace. Two more sections of the walls for the clear well will be poured tomorrow. Chris is working with a lady from New Paris on decals for the village trucks. She has not called back.
CLERK: Gave the May financial report. MAYOR: Thanked the clerk and the solicitor for all the time they have spent crunching numbers and so forth on the lawsuit. Mayor Suggs received a letter from Fire Chief Bliss requesting Robert Gardner III be appointed a volunteer fireman dependent upon passing a physical exam and a drug screen. Motion: Greg Thompson moved to approve Robert Gardner III be appointed a volunteer firefighter upon passing a physical exam and a drug screen, seconded by Carol Lunsford. VV: 4 yea. Mayor Suggs read a letter from Chief Bliss requesting Jack Saunders be suspended as a volunteer firefighter, since he has not made a fire call since October 2005, nor has he been to the fire station. Motion: Greg Thompson moved to suspend volunteer firefighter Jack Saunders, seconded by David Mays. VV: 4 yea. Asst. Chief Smith reported that Mr. Saunders no longer lives in the village or the fire district.
INCOME TAX ADMINISTRATOR: Karen Mays gave council a written report.
HEALTH/SANITATION: Chis Day has met with Robin (Rumpke representative) several times in the past three weeks to solve some problems with the trash pickup. Mayor Suggs reminded everyone to contact Ginny Schenck if they have any problems with their trash pickup.
OLD BUSINESS: David Mays asked if there was any action to be taken after the public hearing. Mayor stated that any action on the pool was to be taken at the June 19th meeting or later. David Mays mentioned that after reading the minutes he thought there might be a group of citizens willing to lease the pool. The village would not run it.
